Leona Lewis has been dropped from her record label Island, it’s been confirmed.
The bombshell comes after her fifth studio album, I Am, failed to trouble the top 10, shifting only 8500 copies in its first week. An anonymous source claimed the relationship “just didn’t work out”, praising the release as a “great record” but admitting that something “just didn’t click”.
Leona signed to Island after parting ways with Syco in 2014, the label with which she scored her biggest hit single Bleeding Love. Y’know, the one that shifted a whopping 1.04 million copies in the UK alone!
The bad news might not prove such a blow to Leona as she’s headed to Broadway – she’ll take the helm in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats musical, taking on some of its biggest songs, as she fills the boots of Nicole Scherzinger. Despite her commercial disappointment, this will no doubt look golden and brighten up her CV to past glories.
